Cloud Real Estate/Virtual Real Estate/Green Real Estate: ?Do they mean the same thing? When I think ?Virtual?, I think mobile. Not tied to a desk. I might be in my car, at my house, or working a table at Starbucks. ?Virtual usually means I am doing most of the work in my head. Practically, it means less travel time, less office expense, and greater flexibility. When I think ?Cloud?, I think online files, document sharing, down-loadable forms. I think simplified storage, easy accessibility, even when working remotely.
When I think Green, I think less paper, more pdf files, online forms. I think scans and faxes, I think working ecologically, although can you have a ?green? company but still be running the A/C with the windows open.
So do they mean the same thing? They answer is no! ?The contemporary office, like the office of the foreseeable future, is a combination of all the above. ?Although the industry is striving to become virtual, utilize the ?cloud,? and function with respect to the future of the planet, the main street office will live on. While the senior generation is still at the helm, the transition to a technologically efficient virtual office will have to wait. Some of the most successful agents have not harnessed the ?cloud,? still flinch at an electronic signature, and feel secure when their desk drawer holds a couple of reams of paper. Finally, the State Commission is not yet on-board with virtual real estate. When those gentlemen come knocking, they still want to hear the fire drawers opening.
File sharing, uploading, scanning, efaxing, smart phones, and e-mail attachments are a way of life to one generation, but a foreign language to another. During this time of transition, requiring every agent to work in a virtual office with storage in the cloud and a dedication to sustainability, is just not a feasible business model ?? yet.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) ? A teenage suicide bomber blew himself up outside NATO headquarters in the Afghan capital on Saturday, killing at least six civilians in a strike that targeted the heart of the U.S.-led military operation in the country, officials said.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the blast, which was the latest in a series of insurgent attacks in the heavily-fortified Afghan capital aimed at undercutting a months-long campaign by the U.S.-led coalition to shore up security in Kabul before a significant withdrawal of combat troops limits American options.
While bombings and shootings elsewhere in Afghanistan often receive relatively little attention, attacks in the capital score propaganda points for the insurgents by throwing doubt on the government's ability to provide security even the seat of its power. The attacks also aim to undermine coalition claims of improving security ahead of the planned withdrawal of foreign troops by the end of 2014.
The bomber struck just before noon Saturday outside the headquarters of the U.S.-led NATO coalition, on a street that connects the alliance headquarters to the nearby U.S. and Italian embassies, a large U.S. military base and the Afghan Defense Ministry.
The alliance and police said all of the dead were Afghans, and the Ministry of Interior said some were street children. Kabul police said in a statement that the bomber was 14 years old.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the target was a U.S. intelligence facility nearby.
German Brig. Gen. Gunter Katz, the spokesman for the U.S.-led international military alliance, said there were no coalition casualties.
Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqi blamed the attack on the Haqqani network, one of the most dangerous militant groups fighting U.S.-led forces in Afghanistan. He did not say what he was basing that conclusion on, but the Haqqani group, which is linked to both the Taliban and al-Qaida, has been responsible for several high-profile attacks in the Afghan capital in the past.
On Friday, the U.S. designated the Pakistan-based Haqqani network a terrorist organization, a move that bans Americans from doing business with members of the group and blocks any assets it holds in the United States.
The Obama administration went forward with the decision despite misgivings about how the largely symbolic act could further stall planned Afghan peace talks or put yet another chill on the United States' already fragile counterterrorism alliance with Pakistan.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mijahid said the decision will have no impact on the war against the Afghan government and U.S.-led forces, and added that the Haqqanis were part of the Taliban and not a separate group. He said its founder, Jalaluddin Haqqani, was a loyal member of the Taliban leadership council and a "person of trust" to the movement's leader, Mullah Mohammed Omar.
"It will not have a negative effect on our struggle and we are rejecting this announcement," Mujahid said in an email.
The Haqqani network has been blamed for a series of high profile attacks against foreign targets in Kabul, including coordinated attacks last April against NATO and government facilities that lasted more than a day before the insurgents were killed. A year ago, they were blamed for a rocket-propelled grenade assault on the U.S. Embassy and NATO headquarters. In June, gunmen stormed a lakeside hotel near Kabul and 18 people in a 12-hour rampage.
American officials estimate the Haqqani forces at 2,000 to 4,000 fighters and say the group maintains close ties with al-Qaida.
Earlier Saturday, hundreds of Afghans and officials had gathered just a few hundred meters (yards) from the site of the attack to lay wreaths at a statue to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the death of Ahmad Shah Massoud, the charismatic Northern Alliance commander who was killed in an al-Qaida suicide bombing two days before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The alliance joined with the United States to help rout the Taliban after America invaded Afghanistan a month later in the wake of the attacks.
Wild bees: Champions for food security and protecting our biodiversityPublic release date: 6-Sep-2012 [ | E-mail | Share ]

Pollinating insects contribute to agricultural production in 150 (84%) European crops. These crops depend partly or entirely upon insects for their pollination and yield. The value of insect pollinators is estimated to be 22 billion a year in Europe. Declines in managed pollinators, such as honeybees, and wild pollinator such bumblebees, solitary bees and hoverflies, are therefore of growing concern as we need to protect food production and the maintain wildflower diversity.
Scientists involved in STEP, a large-scale project funded by the 7th Framework Program (FP7) of the European Union, have therefore taken an inclusive approach looking at the status and trends of all Europe's pollinators.
New findings have been presented at a dedicated STEP symposium at the 5th EurBee meeting held in Halle, Germany on 3-6 September 2012. Prof Simon Potts from the University of Reading, UK and coordinator of STEP opened the discussion: "To help Europe secure sustainable food production and conserve its biodiversity we need to provide policy makers with clear evidence of who pollinates our crops and flowers and what are the best options to safeguard pollination services in a changing world"
More than 32 million European records of pollinators and plants have been analysed. "We have shown that not only has bee diversity been declining but communities are becoming more uniform in their composition", commented the lead scientist Dr Koos Beismeijer from Netherlands Centre for Biodiversity Naturalis, The Netherlands
One key threat to bees is agrochemicals; "we are now finding strong negative effects of pesticides, not only in honeybees and bumblebees, but also solitary bees as Europe has more than 2,500 solitary bee species we expect the implications of our research to be very wide ranging" said Dr Christoph Sandrock of Swiss Bee Research Centre.
Many European countries have an array of agri-environment options aiming to support biodiversity, including bees, but it is unclear how effective these really are. "Our analysis is the first to systematically test whether agri-environment options are actually benefiting bees" said Dr David Kleijn from Alterra, Netherlands.
Several European countries have programmes aiming to improve honeybee health, but there is very little support for wild pollinators despite their critical roles in ecosystems. "One of the big achievements of the STEP project will be the first ever European Red List for bees which will provide an essential tool for politicians and land managers to direct conservation efforts targeted at wild bees" said Mr Stuart Roberts from University of Reading, UK.
"There is increasing evidence that honeybee numbers are insufficient in many parts of Europe to provide adequate pollination services, and so wild pollinators are needed to cover the shortfall" stated Dr Tom Breeze from University of Reading, UK.
The STEP project will continue to use high quality research to deliver the evidence politicians need to develop better policies to protect all of Europe's pollinators. The project also uses its findings to develop specialist factsheets targeted at groups such as farmers and translated in 15 languages: see http://step-project.net/page.php?P=4&SP=14
Simultaneously, STEP is undertaking a broad-scale survey of the public opinion through online questionnaires available in seven European languages. The survey aims to reveal if, and to what extent, people are aware of the role of pollinators in agricultural ecosystems and the consequences for the environment from the decline of bees and other insect pollinators. Freshwater snails and reef-building corals are among the threatened groups
By Brendan Borrell
Nudibranch sea slugs are among a host of invertebrate species that could face extinction.Image: flickr/Phil Camill
By Brendan Borell of Nature magazine
One in five of the world?s invertebrate species are threatened with extinction, according to the latest report from the Zoological Society of London (ZSL).
From the checkerspot butterfly to the giant squid, spineless creatures are thought to represent around 99% of biodiversity on Earth. However, until now, scientists have never attempted a comprehensive review of their conservation status. In fact, fewer than 1% of invertebrates had been assessed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), which has listed threatened species on its Red List since 1963.
?When I first took a look at the Red List, it was biased towards larger, more charismatic species,? says Ben Collen, a biodiversity scientist at the ZSL Institute of Zoology in London, who coordinated the invertebrate study and co-edited the report. ?The project we?ve been running for the past five years tries to put invertebrates on the Red List in a systematic way.?
Collen and his colleagues conclude that the greatest threat is to freshwater invertebrates, including crabs and snails, followed by terrestrial and marine invertebrates. More mobile animals, such as butterflies and dragonflies, tended to have the least risk of extinction.
The report estimates that 34% of freshwater invertebrates could be under threat, including more than half of the world's freshwater snails and slugs. In the southeastern United States, which is a freshwater diversity hotspot, almost 40% of molluscs and crayfish could be wiped out owing to the effects of dams and pollution. In the oceans, almost one-third of reef-building corals are endangered largely because of climate change, which causes coral bleaching and ocean acidification.
Overall, habitat loss, pollution and invasive species represented the biggest threats to invertebrate diversity around the world. The proportion of species at risk (one-fifth) is similar to findings in vertebrates and plants. The report will be formally presented on 7 September at the World Conservation Congress in Jeju, South Korea, where conservationists, scientists and government leaders will meet to discuss conservation and development issues.
Species sample
Because of the lack of information on threats to invertebrates and because so many species are thought to remain unidentified, Collen and his collaborators used a 'sampled approach' to evaluate 1,500 known species in each of 4 representative taxonomic groups ? freshwater molluscs, dragonflies, dung beetles and butterflies. They used standard IUCN criteria that take into account population trends and the geographic ranges of species. They also included comprehensive assessments of crayfish, freshwater crabs, reef-building corals and cephalopods in the evaluation.
Overall, Collen says that he and his team queried thousands of experts by e-mail and convened a series of workshops to help gather data on the prevalence of invertebrate species. They supplemented this with data from independent taxonomic and regional assessments, such as the IUCN's Pan-Africa Freshwater Biodiversity Assessment, bringing the total number of invertebrate species in their study to over 12,000.
Although specialists applaud the focus on under-appreciated taxa, some feel that it is premature to draw conclusions from a limited sample. ?I hope that it gets the attention from policy-makers that it deserves,? says Terry Erwin, an entomologist at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. ?The numbers they use are good enough for public consumption, although not very accurate scientifically.?
Perhaps you are unaware or maybe you have indeed heard the statistic that 50% of all personal bankruptcies are caused due to medical bills. Often, far too often the folks actually had medical insurance, but the co-pays, deductibles or items not covered exceeded the ability of the patient or the patient?s family ability to pay. Most of these medical debtors were not lower class, rather middle class. The upper middle and upper class was able to weather the storm and onslaught of medical bills much easier. This tells us one thing, it tells us that the healthcare system is out of control and completely broken. Source: blogspot.com

The Affordable Care Act and Medical Bankruptcy
In the short-term, the ball is in Minnesota?s court. According to rules issued by HHS, states will be responsible for determining whether or not the ACA-mandated exchanges will be ?active purchasers? or an ?open marketplace.? Exchanges that are active purchasers will be able to extract concessions from insurers while an open marketplace allows all insurance plans that meet the ACA?s requirements to be sold on the exchange. By being aggressive and establishing an active purchasing exchange that can negotiate for low deductibles and larger benefits, Minnesota can control costs and prevent some medical bankruptcies. Medical costs, not poor savings habits, most often lead to bankruptcy
Should your readers be concerned about how vulnerable they, or a friend, neighbor, or family member might be to bankruptcy? The lead author of the Harvard study, David Himmelstein, said, ?for middle-class Americans, health insurance offers tiny protection. Most of us have policies with so many loopholes, co-payments, and deductibles that illness can put you in the poorhouse.? He continued, ?unless you?re Warren Buffett, your family is just one serious illness away from bankruptcy.? Source: medblits.com
Is Medical Debt Really The Leading Cause of Bankruptcy?
Finally, PolitiFact looked to a 2011 report from the Institute for Financial Literacy. That organization surveyed bankruptcy filers and found that just over 70 percent reported that being ?overextended on credit? was one of the leading causes of their financial troubles. By comparison, only about 31 percent blamed illness or injury. Source: spivacklaw.com
Health Insurance May not Prevent Medical Related Bankruptcies
?Medical expenses have made up a significant number of bankruptcies for almost twenty-five years,? said Tampa bankruptcy attorney, Reginald Osenton of the Osenton Law Offices. ?With more high- deductibles or employers shifting to higher deductible group health plans to save money, a lot of people with health insurance are still at risk of hitting financial hardship.? Small business bankruptcies decline in 2Q
To help preserve assets in corporate bankruptcy, hiring the services of an allied bankruptcy lawyer is indispensable. Different law firms are available to represent corporations that are in financial difficulties. The owners would do well to study these firms and obtain proper referrals before deciding which law firm would be best suited to handle their case. Insolvency happens to be the most complex areas of law in the US, and the attorneys handling allied insolvency should be one of the most experienced to find a way through the laws. The attorney lawyers may have to deal with real estate laws, allied laws, tax laws, and contract laws when filing. If the bankrupt company owns real estate or has other possessions, then hiring a corporate insolvency lawyer assumes a higher importance for preserving these assets. Another reason for the requirement of a lawyer is the accurate paperwork that is required by the courts could be handled adequately by an experienced lawyer. Even during insolvency, the tendency of the firms will be to continue with normal business and make profits to be able to meet the payment plans agreed to in the court. Therefore, the organization must devise a plan that assures the court of payments towards the debt owed and at the same time have enough leeway to conduct meaningful business. The best way this can be done for corporates is by filing a petition under chapter 11. There are other chapters meant for people other than businesses. Chapter 7 and chapter 13 are for individuals who are bankrupt and chapter 12 is for bankrupt farmers. A decline in revenue may lead to a corporate running into losses and liabilities that it finds difficult to repay. An allied insolvency attorney can advise the organization how best to approach the court. He can also inform which business practices will be likely to take the firm out of the path of the creditors. In this line of approach, the corporation may heed to hire allied accountants as experts to plan its business practices for betterment of revenues. The downturn could be due to a sudden loss in revenue, due to which, the company finds it difficult to pay its creditors and other suppliers. At such times, creditors may find the company selling off possessions to pay debts and decide to force the company into filing for insolvency. In such emergencies, corporate business liquidation attorneys can help with the filing, to stop creditor harassment. Different states in the US have differing laws and it is important that the attorney representing the firm should be well versed in the differences. He should practice in the same state in which the petition will be filed, since this will be an important part of the representation. One of the major decisions when devising a plan with the courts is the distinction between secured and unsecured assets of the debtor. A secured debt is connected to possessions such as property. Unsecured assets are similar to credit card debts that are not backed up by possessions. Dealing with secured debts is a much more complicated issue since the assets may be tied up with other loans and liens. The allied liquidation attorney generally arranges for a debt settlement plan, to repay the debts that the corporate can manage with the current financial situation. Under chapter 11, the organization has the permission to continue its normal functioning, and maintain control of its assets. Meanwhile, the liquidation attorney helps the organization to reorganize its debts. The court usually allows the company a 120-day period to come up with a viable plan with which to settle its debts. If this fails, the creditors can come up with their plans, which the company then, has no choice but to follow. The Bankruptcy Attorney will definitely help those people if they have filed for bankruptcy so that, the common people do not get over burdened with the debt which will be impossible for them to pay back. ISLAMABAD (AP) ? Pakistani intelligence officials have confirmed that a U.S. drone strike near the Afghan border last week killed the son of the founder of the powerful Haqqani militant network.
The officials say Badruddin Haqqani was killed Aug. 24 in one of three strikes that hit militant hideouts in the Shawal Valley in Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal area. They did not specify which strike killed him, but said he was leaving the hideout when the missiles hit.
The officials spoke anonymously Thursday because they were not authorized to talk to media.
Afghanistan's intelligence agency confirmed Haqqani's death earlier, but did not provide details.
Haqqani's death would be a serious blow to the militant organization founded by his father, Jalaluddin Haqqani. He has been described as the group's day-to-day operations commander.
While ZTE and Huawei commence an assault on the high end of the market, companies like Pantech are nipping in behind to hoover up the budget space. When we reviewed the Pantech Burst, it was $50 on contract, but now can be picked up for $0.99. What do you get for less than a dollar? Stellar battery life (for an LTE phone), performance that easily matched a Samsung Skyrocket and LG Nitro HD more than compensate for its flaky capacitive buttons and weak camera. But, does the price justify turning a blind eye to its flaws? For a handset that costs less than a decent cup of coffee, what would you really change?
Menopause relief may seem difficult, but with a few tips towards this, you may find the change easier to deal with than you thought possible. Menopause relief can be achieved when a woman is supplied with some vitamins especially Vitamin D and Vitamin B complex. Multivitamins may help in this way and are preferred by health care provider. Menopause relief does not have to come from synthetic hormone replacement therapy. If you are concerned about the side effects of HRT, consider the natural help with menopause our products can provide. Menopause remedies for mood swings are often sought after for women that are experiencing them. You may find yourself feeling overly sad or even very excited without any reason at all.
Female Menopause
Women aren?t getting any preferential treatment, and that goes double when our hormones are imbalanced. Aren?t you tired of night sweats ? sluggish thinking ? hot flashes ? emotional rollercoaster rides ? waking up and feeling as if you haven?t slept at all? Women who experience age-related energy problems and other age-related health problems due to an imbalance of female hormones can be greatly benefited by taking menopause herbs. Female menopause Rejuvenator also helps ease the well-known problems that are associated with PMS in younger women. Every living organism has genes. Genes are a set of instructions that decide what the organism is like, how it survives, and how it behaves in its environment.
The genes lie in long strands of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) called chromosomes. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes - or a total of 46. A donkey has 31 pairs of chromosomes, a hedgehog has 44, and a fruit fly has just 4.
A gene consists of a long combination of four different nucleotide bases (chemicals). There are many possible combinations. The four nucleotides are:
A (adenine) ?C (cytosine) ?G (guanine) ?T (thymine)
Different combinations of the letters ACGT give people different characteristics. For example, a person with the following combination - AAACCGGTTTTT - may have green eyes, while somebody whose combination is - AAACCGGTTTAA - may have blue eyes. If fact, the last two letters - TT - and - AA - mean the color, and the first ten letters - AAACCGGTTT - mean the eye. (this gene formula is a simplification; in reality they would be much longer).
So, to recap in slightly more detail:
Genes carry the codes ACGT. We have thousands of genes. They are like our computer program and make each one of us what we are. A gene is a tiny section of a long DNA double helix molecule, which consists of a linear sequence of base pairs. A gene is any section along the DNA that has instructions encoded that allow a cell to produce a specific product - usually, a protein, such as an enzyme - that triggers one precise action. There are between 50,000 and 100,000 genes, and every single gene is made up of thousands, even hundreds of thousands, of chemical bases.
Chromosomes comes from the Greek Chroma, which means color, and Soma, which means body (chromosomes are stained very strongly by some dyes). Chromosomes are the long strands of DNA. They are organized structures of DNA and protein and are found in cells. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes. An enormous number of genes lie in each chromosome strand. Scientists say that a chromosome is a single piece of DNA which has many genes, regulatory elements and other nucleotide sequences (sequences of the letters ACGT).
?A chromosome consists of DNA and has proteins attached to it. These chromosomes are located in your body's cells, which then contain this important genetic information held in the long strands of DNA.
DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is the chemical that appears in strands (see picture - below right). Every cell in your body has the same DNA. Each person's DNA is different - this is what makes each of us unique. DNA is made up of two long-paired strands spiraled into the famous double helix. Each strand contains millions of chemical building blocks called bases.
Your genes make you what you are
Your genes decide virtually everything about you. Here is a list of some of the basic features and characteristics than your genes are programmed to do. Your genes decide..
whether you are tall or not
the color of your hair
the color of your skin
whether you are more likely to develop certain diseases
whether you are good at sports
how you respond to environmental triggers
what you look like inside and out
Our genes are our inheritance
We get our genes from our parents. Scientists say that a gene is a basic unit of heredity in a living organism. Anything that lives depends on genes. They possess the data to build and maintain cells and pass genetic information to offspring. Each of your cells contains two sets of chromosomes - one set came from your mother while the other came from your father - male sperm and the female egg carry a single set of 23 chromosomes each - 22 autosomes and an X or Y sex chromosome. If you are female you inherited an X chromosome from each parent - if you are male you inherited an X chromosome from your mother and a Y from your father.
The Human Genome Project (HGP)
The Human Genome Project was a global project aimed at determining the sequence of the chemical pairs that make up human DNA. The HGP had another goal - to identify and map the 20,000-25,000 or so genes that make up the Human Genome. The undertaking started in 1990, headed by James Watson who worked at the NIH (National Institutes of Health), along with other scientists from the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Great Britain. The researchers came up with a working draft in 2000. Three years later, in 2003, the Human Genome Project was just about completed. Further analysis is still being published today. Scientists say that mapping the human genome brings us much closer to developing effective treatments for hundreds of diseases. Not only did the HGP focus on humans, it also looked at other organisms and animals, such as the fruit fly and E. coli. The HGP is the largest single research ever carried out in modern science. Over three billion nucleotide combinations have been found in the human genome (combinations of ACGT). The project had aimed to sequence 95% of human DNA, so far 99.99% has been sequenced.
What is Gene Therapy?
Genes are inserted into a patient's cells and tissues to treat a disease, usually a hereditary disease. This science is still in its early stages. However, there has been some success. Scientists are currently studying various ways of treating cancer using gene therapy. One is to try to enhance a healthy cell's ability to fight cancer. Another is to target the cancer cells themselves - to destroy them or prevent their growth.
Gene testing a person's susceptibility to cancer
BRCA1 is a gene which significantly raises a woman's chances of developing breast cancer. Today, it is possible for woman to have a test to find out whether she carries that gene. BRCA1 carriers have a 50% chance of passing the anomaly to each of their children.
Genetic tests to find your ideal treatment
Scientists say that one day we will be able to test a patient to find out which specific medicines are best for him or her, depending on that person's genetic makeup. Some medicines work well for some patients, but not for others.

New numbers from ComScore show that users of feature phones are upgrading to smartphones?at record rates, and are overwhelmingly choosing Android for their new platform.
In April,?2011, just over 60 percent of feature?phone users chose to stay with a feature phone when they got a new one. In April of this year, that number is down to 50 percent; meanwhile, the proportion of?users choosing to upgrade to smartphones has gone from 38% percent?to 47.5 percent in the same period. It's the tipping point for smartphone adoption: it's very likely that within a few months, smartphone upgraders will outnumber feature?phone keepers.
Android is the platform of choice for these new users, according to ComScore's numbers: 61.5 percent of new smartphone users in April chose Android, while a significant but still much smaller 25.2 percent picked up?an iPhone. Meanwhile, 7.1 percent went with Microsoft and just 4.8 percent with BlackBerry.
This is likely due to the fact that Android phones are present on every carrier, often for free. Many people are simply?looking to get GPS and email on their phones, but are?not particularly interested in the premium features of more expensive Android models or the iPhone 4S. A cheap Android-based phone may not excite enthusiasts who keep up with the latest hardware, but as a free complement to a new carrier contract, it appears to be very compelling to customers.
The study comes on the heels of another by Nielsen concluding that two-thirds of all phones bought in the U.S. are smartphones. Now it appears that the remaining third, which was the subject of the ComScore's research, is going to be shrinking even faster than before.
